Brideshead Revisited

My favourite book is the same as one of my favourite films; Brideshead Revisited. The novel by English writer Evelyn Waugh was first published in 1945 and is considered one of the best novels from 1923 to present. In 1981 BBC made BR into a television serial and later in 2008 the film, starring Emma Thompson and Matthew Goode amongst others, was released.

Be Mine, Bardot!

Ladurée

Small round cakes, crisp on the outside, smooth and soft in the middle and with all the colours of the rainbow. The macaroon is the perfect indulgent delight and for every season, Ladurée creates a new flavour and has now even created a music box as a tribute to Alice in Wonderland. The limited gift box is adorned with images of the hat, the Cheshire cat and the watch. Available in Ladurée and Printemps.

Horace Walpole and Strawberry Hill

Victoria and Albert is hosting the first major exhibition on Horace Walpole, son of Englands first prime minister and one of the most important collectors of the eighteenth century. In 1749 Walpole bought an estate in Twickenham called Strawberry Hill, which he would remodel and rebuild into his "Gothic Castle". Gregorian Gothic architectural details were added to the exterior and inside the rooms were filled with his vast collections of anitiquities, art and historical prints. Over a thirty-year period, Walpole added new features to Strawberry Hill as he saw fit and the building is now known as one of the most influential examples of Rococo Gothic, or Georgian Gothic, style. Inspried by Strawberry Hill and a nightmare, Walpole wrote The Castle of Ortranto, considered the first gothic novel.
